Heber B. & Ardeth G. Kapp - Keynote Speakers

Ardeth G. Kapp, author and lecturer, served as president of the Church’s Young Women organization from 1984 to 1992. She also served with her husband, Heber B. Kapp, as he presided over the Canada Vancouver Mission, and served as matron of the Cardston Alberta Temple  She has also been an institute teacher near the University of Utah .

She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and a master’s degree from Brigham Young University .  She was a member of the Church Curriculum Planning Committee, and a member of the board of the Church Education System.

Heber B. Kapp served in the armed forces in the Navy. Upon his return he was called to the Western Canadian Misson where he met Ardeth.

He graduated from the University of Utah, and became an educator and a building contractor  After serving as bishop, he was called as a councilor in  the stake presidency and then served another 9 years as stake president.  He was later called as a regional representative where he served until he was called as president of the Canada Vancouver Mission. After returning from the mission he was called as president of the Cardston Alberta Temple .

Brother and Sister Kapp chaired the EFY (Especially For Youth) program in the Utah North area for two years, serving 9000 young men and women.  They currently serve as the Gospel Doctrine teachers in their ward. 

 

 

 

Karl R. Anderson

Karl Anderson was born in Salt Lake City, but grew up in Ogden, UT. He earned his B.S. and MBA degrees from the University of Utah. His professional career spans from various management positions, including Sr. Vice President, in the information systems field for 24 years to being the Coordinator and Institute Director for Northern Ohio for the last 10 years. He has also taught Seminary and Institute for over 23 years.  He is the author of “Joseph Smith’s Kirtland,” the co-author of “Church Sites in Ohio,” as well as numerous articles published in the “Encyclopedia of Mormonism” and the “Historical Atlas of Mormonism.”

Karl Anderson served a full-time mission in the Swiss-Austrian Mission in 1957-60. He has held various teaching and leadership positions including Cleveland Stake President, Regional Representative and Area Family History Advisor to the North America North East Area. He has been heavily involved, and instrumental, in the restoration of the Kirtland historic sites. He currently serves as the Patriarch of the Kirtland Ohio Stake.   

Karl and his wife, Joyce, have seven children and over twenty grandchildren. They have lived in the Cleveland-Kirtland area for over 34 years.

Richard N. & Pamela Christensen, Columbus Temple President

Richard N. Christensen was born in North Dakota, and was later raised in Montana. He married Sister Pamela Little on June 19, 1971 in the Manti, Utah temple. Sister Christensen was born in Ogden, Utah, and raised in Ontario, Oregon. They are the parents of 5 children and 12 grandchildren.

President Christensen earned a BS in Physics from Brigham Young University, along with an MS/PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Stanford University.

President Christensen worked from 1972 to 1978 as an Associate Professor at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and from 1978 to 2000 as a Professor at The Ohio State University. President Christensen is a Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University for teaching and research in gas fired heat pumps, heat exchangers and nuclear power. He is the author of over 150 scientific papers and is the recipient of 12 patents.

Among other callings, President Christensen has served in the church as a Bishop in San Luis Obispo, Ca, as a Counselor in the Columbus, Ohio Stake Presidency, as a Counselor in the Columbus Ohio Mission, as President of the Sao Paulo Interlagos Mission, and as a Counselor and Engineer in the Columbus Ohio Temple. He was called in 2007 to serve as the President of the Columbus Ohio Temple.

 

 Darwin Dean Sorensen, Ohio Cleveland Mission President

Darwin Dean Sorensen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Darwin Nels and Ruth Ann Schrader Sorensen. He is married to Lee Ann Burt.  They are the parents of four sons and they have seven grandchildren.  Prior to his mission, President Sorensen worked as Vice President at Holiday Oil.  

President Sorensen is a member of the Crescent Ridge 7th Ward, Sandy Utah Crescent Ridge Stake.  Among other callings in the Church, he has served as stake Young Men president and temple ordinance worker, counselor in a stake presidency, bishop and counselor, high councilor, elder’s quorum president, qcoutmaster and missionary in the Arizona Tempe Mission.
